Some Changes are Coming to the Universe
As you have no doubt noticed, roughly half of the planets in the universe have not seen any significant use since the inception of the site. What this means is that we have a board structure that is clearly too big for our current userbase. We feel that this is an issue that is worth remedying.
What we hope to see is a universe that is appropriately-sized to the amount of usage that we have. It is to no one's benefit to have to navigate through a series of graveyard threads to find the amount of action; we would like for it to be as straightforward as possible to navigate around the site to find where the action's taking place.
We also want for the site to be able to easily grow as site usage increases.
To meet these goals, we are announcing the following:
Site Structure Changes:
The Deep Core, Core Worlds, Colonies, Inner Rim, Expansion Region, and Mid Rim sub-forums will be combined into a single sub-forum, titled "The Inner Planets".
The Outer Rim (East and West) and Unknown Regions sub-forums will be combined into a single sub-forum, titled "The Outer Planets".
We hope that this will greatly simplify the amount of navigation needed to get to a planet of interest.
Planet Activity Policy:
Planets to which no posts have been made for a period of time exceeding 5 months real-life time will be removed from the active universe section. Their destination is determined as follows:
If there has been noteworthy activity (that is, at least 5 substantial in-character posts made on the planet) at any time on the planet, it will be placed into an archive section so that the posts remain visible for future reference.
If there has not been any noteworthy activity, the planet will be removed from the forum.
We hope that this will remove clutter from the boards and that planets that remain in the universe section are an active and worthwhile place to pursue RP with fellow players.
Planet Addition:
Players who wish to RP on a planet that is not currently in the active universe are encouraged to request a planet in the "Requests" board. If it has been archived, it will be returned to the active universe; if it does not exist, it will be created.
All added planets will be subject to the planet activity policy as outlined above starting from the date that they are (re-)added to the active universe.
Whether for location-specific RP, or as the general need for space increases with site growth, we hope that the users will feel comfortable with taking personal ownership over what planets should and should not be present. This RP setting is the Star Wars universe, which is a massive place; while we cannot incorporate all locations simultaneously, that does not mean that they do not exist in the universe we play in. If a player needs a locale, it should be easily made accessible to them. That is the goal we hope to achieve with this bullet point.
As things stand now, 23 planets will meet the criteria for removal from the active universe. If you wish to use any of these planets, you are invited to request their re-addition to the active universe (preferably at the point in time in which you'll begin to use them).
Thank you all for your attention!! These changes will be taking effect 7 days from this notice. We appreciate your patience as the maintenance is done to make all of this happen. We will also be posting notices in chat from this point on, and up until the changes occur. Have a great day, kiddos, and remember, Dont forget to bring a towel!!
